In order to earn the IIHS’s TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation, a vehicle must earn the top score Good in all of the IIHS crash tests, including the new and very difficult small overlap frontal crash tests, as well as earn a Superior in its front crash protection/prevention test. All the current Acura models did just that. David Zuby, executive vice president and senior research officer, IIHS, had this to say about the Acura brand’s feat:
We commend Acura for receiving the highest IIHS award designation for all of its vehicles. With qualifying crashworthiness ratings, including in the rigorous front small overlap crash test, and an effective front crash prevention system available across the lineup, Acura is one of the leaders in the luxury segment.
The AcuraWatch safety system includes features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System with Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assist System, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Warning. Models also received improvements to its next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structures with a design that helps to distribute crash energy more evenly through the front of the vehicle while also improving occupant protection. Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager for the Acura Division, had this to say:
