Do you plan on purchasing a pre-owned vehicle in the near future? Typically, there are two options available: pre-owned and Certified Pre-Owned (CPO). The latter is the better option as it has undergone more extensive inspections.

With the Acura brand, however, buyers can choose between Acura Certified Pre-Owned and Acura Precision Used. Learn the difference.

Acura Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

Acura vehicles must undergo rigorous requirements to receive the CPO designation. This category is known as Acura Precision Certified. To meet the requirements, vehicles must satisfy the following:

  • Cannot be more than six-years-old
  • Cannot have more than 80,000 miles on the odometer
  • Must pass a 182-point inspection
  • Must pass a history check verifying the vehicle hasn’t been in any major collisions or incurred flood damage

Purchase of an Acura Certified Precision vehicle also comes with a seven-year powertrain warranty and two-year non-powertrain warranty. In addition, buyers receive two years of Acura Roadside Assistance.

Acura Precision Used

The requirements to qualify for Acura Precision used are less rigorous and includes the following:

  • Cannot be more than 10-years old; there are no mileage limits
  • Must pass a 112-point inspection
  • Must pass a basic background check

Buyers that purchase an Acura Precision Used vehicle receive powertrain and non-powertrain warranties, both good for six months. One year of Acura Roadside Assistance is included.

With the purchase of either an Acura Certified Precision or Acura Precision Used vehicle, buyers are also eligible to upgrade to the brand’s Acura Care® coverage for extended repair services.
