We sell some fun vehicles here at Acura of Peabody. Many of the new Acura cars on our lot don’t just offer luxury. They offer amazing performance as well, and few models are as focused on performance as the 2019 Acura NSX. This stylish supercar is already impressive enough, but now recent rumors indicate that a new “Type R” version with some big upgrades is in the works.

The Acura NSX Type R could make its debut at this fall’s Tokyo Motor Show. There have been rumors swirling about a Type R model practically since the current version of the Acura NSX was introduced back in 2015. Naturally, an Acura NSX Type R would get some upgrades worth talking about.

One report predicts that an Acura NSX Type R could have a total output of around 650 horsepower. That could mean that the Acura NSX drops two of its electric motors, keeping its rear motor that produces forty-seven horsepower, and then getting outfitted with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that can put out around 500 horsepower. This would be a lighter, track-focused Acura NSX model, which means that aerodynamic upgrades would also be a part of the package.

It would also lose some weight, which could mean dropping the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive® system currently found in the 2019 Acura NSX and replacing it with a rear-wheel drive system. There are plenty of rumors about what the Acura NSX Type R might look like, but we can’t wait to get the real scoop this fall.
