You may think it’s premature to imagine what the 2021 Acura ILX might be like. That’s not necessarily the case, however. Sometimes, by looking back and examining the present, you can get a solid idea of what might be to come.

When it made its debut in the 2013 model year, the Acura ILX was the first compact sedan offered by the Acura brand since the Acura Integra was retired from production 12 years earlier. Since its introduction, the Acura ILX has remained relatively untouched, allowing the sedan to retain its sporty, aerodynamic good looks.

Of course, relatively untouched isn’t the same as entirely untouched. In 2016, the sedan underwent some noticeable restyling just like it did for the 2019 model-year. Three years ago, the sedan’s refresh included the addition of Jewel Eye LED headlights. The most recent refresh includes new front and rear ends “borrowed” from the Acura Precision Concept car. In the back of the automobile alone, you’ll notice updated taillights, a lower diffuser that includes visible exhaust outlets, and a new top for the sedan’s trunk.

With 2019’s restyling being so recent, not many in-your-face changes are expected on the 2020 Acura ILX. That doesn’t mean things will remain the same for the 2021 model-year. Now that the Acura Type S Concept has emerged as the vision for the brand’s four-door future, the 2021 Acura ILX may embody that future with an all-new look that sets an unprecedented standard.
