Acura vehicles have long been known for their exquisite exterior and interior styling, and they also handle exceptionally well. However, these models also keep both drivers and passengers safe.

This is evident in the fact that three 2022 models earned the coveted Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The Winning Models

The models that received the Top Safety Pick award includes the Acura MDX, Acura RDX, and Acura TLX. What’s even more awe-inspiring is that all three vehicles earned the Top Safety Pick+ (TPS+) designation, which is the highest award given by IIHS. Not to mention, AcuraWatch™, which is the brand’s suite of safety technology, also earned a “Superior” rating in frontal crash prevention.

The IIHS performs six separate crash tests when it assesses models. To receive the TPS+ designation, models must earn the highest score of “Good” on all six tests.

Apart from the IIHS testing, every 2022 Acura model that underwent testing from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also received a perfect five-star score.

Why Acura Models Excel in Safety

Part of Acura’s success is due to the aforementioned AcuraWatch™. Body frames on modern Acura models are also built using the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) structure. The frame is designed to keep occupants safe by absorbing the force of a frontal collision.

In addition, Acura cars also implement the latest restraint systems, including seat belt pretensioners. Multiple airbags are also included as standard, including front-, knee-, and side-curtain airbags.
