Last week, our Acura dealers near North Shore, Acura of Peabody, were thrilled to learn that four of our 2016 new Acura models earned the top designation of Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)! Two sedans, the 2016 Acura ILX and 2016 Acura RLX, and two luxury SUVs, the 2016 Acura MDX and 2016 Acura RDX, each earned the safety rating from the independent crash testing agency. Keep reading to learn more!

In order to earn the Top Safety Pick+ designation, a vehicle must earn the IIHS’s top rating of GOOD in the small overlap frontal offset, moderate overlap frontal offset tests, side crash tests, roof strength tests, and rear crash performance tests. It also must offer a standard or optional front crash prevention system. Earning those ratings is enough to earn the Top Safety Pick designation; to get to the “plus” level, a vehicle’s front crash prevention system must earn a superior or advanced. It also must be equipped with automatic braking capabilities that will stop or slow down the vehicle without driver intervention before hitting a target in tests of 12 mph, 25 mph, or both.

The Acura brand prides itself on offering safe vehicles with all the latest in advanced safety technologies. Standard and available features include a broad range of active and passive features with leading-edge safety- and driver-assistance technologies that are designed to help drivers avoid a collision or at the very least mitigate its severity. The AcuraWatch suite of technologies is available across the entire new Acura lineup and offers forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking system, lane departure warning system, and lane keeping assist system, and multi-angle rearview camera as standard equipment.
