The 2016 Acura MDX seats up to seven passengers and is offered in front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions. Standard comfort and convenience features include heated mirrors, a power liftgate, rear privacy glass, keyless entry and ignition, heated eight-way power front seats, driver memory settings, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Advanced features include twin dashboard displays with a 7-inch touchscreen and 8-inch information screen, a multi-angle rearview camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, Siri Eyes Free voice commands, and an eight-speaker sound system with a CD player, an iPod/USB interface, and satellite radio.

It comes powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that generates 290 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired to a nine-speed automatic and comes standard with front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive (SH-AWD) is available as an option. The EPA estimates that it will average 19/27 mpg, city and highway, with front-wheel drive and 18/26 mpg, respectively, with all-wheel drive.

In testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it earned a perfect 5-Star Overall Rating with perfect five-star ratings in both total frontal impact and total side impact safety. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave it their top score of Good in all of its categories while also granting it the second-highest rating of Advanced in frontal collision mitigation system tests.
